Have you noticed that your skin color is blotchy or uneven? One of the most common skin concerns is hyperpigmentation, an overproduction of melanin in the skin. This is caused by a combination of factors like hormones, genetics, trauma, aggressive skin care products and of course, sun exposure! Here are some tips to help reduce the appearance of this skin condition...
1. Wear SPF every day! The skin on our face is exposed every day and needs to be protected. An SPF of 30 is recommended.
2. Use topical antioxidants such as Vitamin C or Green Tea. Antioxidants prevent the cells from sun damage and repair already damaged cells.
3. Receive professional exfoliation treatments such as ultrasonic exfoliation or chemical peels. These treatments increase how quickly the pigmented cells surface and shed which results in a brighter, more even complexion.
4. Use a pigment inhibitor serum. Your cells have a memory and they will keep overproducing melanin until you break the cycle! There are a variety of ingredients that disrupt of the production of melanin. A few examples are licorice, various berry extracts, niacinamide, and vitamins A, C and E.
